History

Kuronue’s past has been a stormy one of ups and downs, one sometimes outweighing the other. He was raised in San Francisco, though not with his birth family. Kuronue was taken away from his parents when he was five for neglect. His father was gone; Kuronue was never told if he were actually dead or simply dodging taking care of his child and wife. Kuronue’s mother was declared unfit and neglectful by the time he had turned five years old and he was whisked into foster care soon after. The only thing he took with him was a red pendant that had belonged to his father. Anytime someone tried to take it Kuronue would grow violent, screaming in rage and biting or clawing until it was agreed to simply let the child keep his trinket if it kept him happy. Kuronue never lets it out of his sight.

He lived for the most part with this foster family and it was...happy enough, one could suppose. Not abused but not lavished with attention either. Kuronue will often boast that he "raised himself" in a great many aspects. It was when he was in the elementary school age that he met and became a close friend he called Kurama. As he grew older, Kuronue spent less and less time around that home and more around his best friend. The two were always in trouble for something; Kuronue had become an adept thief, often pulling his best friend into whatever scheme he could plan. The two were inseparable, and had evens started plans for a bank heist before he was sent to juvie.

At an early age the two of them began performing minor crimes such as shoplifting and petty burglary. Always working together to protect the other. They were careful, working away from their neighborhood and in a special place that Kuronue still visits now and then. Around the age of twelve they were both adept pickpockets and had already performed minor burglaries around the town and in small stores. They were confident kids, they never had to worry about getting caught. But during a heist in a neighbor's home when Kuronue was about fourteen things -did- go wrong, and the police were called in. The two managed to get to an escape through a downstairs window, but Kuronue dropped his pendant (well known and easily distinguished as his). He turned back to get it, yelling for "Kurama" to keep going for their "hideout." It was only a matter of moments before he was apprehended by the officials. Unwilling to rat his best out as an accomplice, he took the fall in his place. Kuronue was taken away and sent to Juvenile Detention, and was released just shy of his 17th birthday. Returning to his foster family, he was placed back in public school and to their faint pride was eventually offered a chance to attend Durden under a Martial Arts Scholarship. He accepted it, knowing he needed some form of "wiping the slate clean" even if he had no intentions of leaving "the life" behind just yet.
